Me tocaste la nariz y lo perdí todo

A solo exhibition at Galeria ATC in Santa Cruz de Tenerife showcasing a mix of large and medium-sized works on paper, assemblages of found objects and ceramics, and video projections.

Me tocaste la nariz y lo perdí todo is an invitation to face what makes us uncomfortable, to embrace imperfection, and to find beauty in what we usually reject. In each of the works, the exploration of emotions becomes an act of revelation, stripping away taboos and allowing the unpleasant, the hidden, and the repressed to be represented without filters or prejudices.

The exhibition also serves as a symbol of transition. The artist returns to her roots, even if they are unfamiliar to her, building a bridge between London and her new surroundings. Through objects brought from the big city and elements rescued from previous generations of her own family in the island, the exhibition becomes an exercise in which the old and the forgotten acquire new value and meaning.

The exhibition is a tribute to Reyes’s mother and the previous generations of women in the family.

Caballo Blanco

As an extension of  her exhibition Me tocaste la nariz y perdí todo, Cristina Reyes will complete sculptural works at Galería ATC. Working with ceramics and found objects, Reyes will mimic the process of the video performances she produces in the solitude of her studio, but this time in a public space. As part of her personal presentation, Reyes will assume an artistic persona that blurs the line between creator and that which is created. By applying  makeup and engaging in other modes of disguise, she emphasizes her own state of “work-in-progress”.  These sessions may become ephemeral artefacts of her object work, or works in and of  themselves.

Each session will last two hours. Apart from the planned sessions, visitors can find the artist working on the pieces spontaneously throughout the duration of the exhibition, outside the constraints of predetermined times and dates. Visitors are invited to attend and observe her artistic practice, but will be instructed to refrain from speaking or interacting with the artist and each other.

The temporary complete suspension of sound serves to create a distraction-free ambiance, where people can enter and leave at any moment during the session. By creating in silence–a performative exposure of an internal process– Reyes amplifies her vulnerability and the solitary labor that never quite finishes.
