La Sombra Azul

The Smallest Gallery in Soho is delighted to present La Sombra Azul a new installation by Spanish artist Cristina Reyes.

La Sombra Azul is a site-responsive installation that transforms the gallery into a quiet sanctuary amid London’s movement. Operating between two and three dimensions, this hybrid mural-sculpture acts as a playful totem bridging realms as an urban guardian. The work explores our ancient impulse to express what rational language cannot through symbolic figures. Painted live in a performative ritual where the artist temporarily merges with the space, the installation brings an active protective presence into being rather than a static object. As the debut project in Reyes’s Guardianes series, it offers a moment of pause and curiosity, reimagining ritual and myth within modern urban life.

The work will be produced in the gallery from 1 to 11 November, with the artist creating the work live and incorporating her own body into the process, as if she were part of the artwork itself. The work becomes a performance and the performance becomes part of the work, bringing the guardian to life through action.

The exhibition is supported by the Instituto Cervantes in London and Gobierno de Canarias.
